Lucie Sivicka is originally from a small town called Zatec in the Czech Republic and now resides in the South West of the UK with her family. Lucie studied at the Art and Ceramic School in Bechyne in the Czech Republic for four years and went on to create pottery for the next 20 years. Her artist career included working with various companies in Prague, predominately non-profit organisations, running workshops for the elderly or with orphaned children with special needs. Lucie has also worked from her own studio designing and making her concepts or creating commissioned art works.
“I have also fallen in love with making stained glass items, especially windows and lamp shades using both leading and Tiffany techniques My stained glass lamp shades have been given as gifts by prestigious organisations to numerous famous Czech musicians, actors and the two most recent Czech presidents. I love working with both clay and glass, I hope you enjoy my work as much as I enjoy making it.”
Currently Lucie works and makes her ceramic tableware from the same studio as her colleague and friend the well known potter Lincoln Kirby-Bell in Newlyn, Cornwall. Her sgraffito decorated work is thrown on the wheel and painted with a slip. By scratching into the slip surface the lower layer is revealed. Every piece is individually decorated and finally gets a clear glaze-firing to harden and seal the ceramic.
